Amtec Medical

Crescent Capital Initial Investment 1999

The initial investment in this company was completed in February 1999 when Amtec was still a very early stage business.

Amtec Medical is a medical device company, based in Antrim, Northern Ireland, which develops and markets intelligent devices to assist the medical profession both in terms of improved patient care and cost savings. The Company has a number of products at varying stages of development and market penetration.

Venometer
Amtec’s first product was the Venometer, a screening device for Deep Vein Thrombosis (”DVT”) based on strain gauge plethysmography technology (patent protected). The Venometer is now established in the National Health Service and FDA approval has been obtained.

Waveform
This product is designed to stimulate the calf to pump blood back to the heart when a patient is immobile, for example during a serious operation, long haul flight or long term bed care. This issue has recently attracted much media interest around the “economy class syndrome” which can lead to fatal DVTs in passengers. Inital product prototypes have been released to the hospital market and a number of trials are currently ongoing.

Over recent years Amtec has assembled a quality management team with the drive and determination to grow the company into a significant medical device business. The team is particularly strong on marketing and selling skills and has become a major supplier to the NHS. In August 2007 Crescent sold its holding in the company to members of the Amtec management team.
