Crescent Capital invests in the third dimension…

Crescent Capital today announced its latest investment; Axis Three Ltd, a Northern Ireland company, founded in 2003 that has already established itself as market leader and pioneer in the provision of 3D imaging solutions.

This is an engineering and software company with marketing focus on reconstructive and cosmetic surgery applications, Crescent Capital’s John Knapton commented, “by listening to surgeons and identifying substantive areas of dissatisfaction in currently available surgical imaging products, Axis Three has developed a ground breaking solution”, he added, “this product marks a quantum change for surgeons and patients alike, using a bespoke algorithm to simulate the outcome of surgical procedures on a three dimensional image of the patients own body”

CEO, Steve Crummey said, “through an exclusive licensing agreement, the company has integrated patented image-capture technology, developed by Siemens, with its own ingenious IP to deliver a powerful, flexible and intuitive platform that can be tailored to a variety of surgical simulation requirements. Manipulation of the patient’s own image and underlying “3D mesh” is done easily. Various ‘after’ surgery outcomes in the patient’s own 3D image can be demonstrated before any surgical procedure is performed”. Speaking from the company’s new USA base in Boston, Massachusetts, Steve continued, “there is a huge opportunity for the company to position itself for rapid growth in the USA, Europe and Asia. We now have testimonials from over 50 of the top plastic surgeons in the USA and beyond, describing how Axis Three has resolved real frustrations, while vastly increasing the confidence and comfort level of their patients.”

Axis Three chairman, Bryan Keating commented, “existing surgical imaging systems are often little more than simple photography; pictures in 2D or 3D that offer no accurate, post operative simulation or measurement capability. Some simplistically, only use 2D morphing programs to artistically represent cosmetic procedures.” conjecturing on the shortfalls of market incumbents, Bryan said, “volumetric measurements cannot be taken from a 2D image, and current 3D systems are limited to comparing measurement differences on the pre and post surgical images, after surgery has already been performed; Axis Three offers something no-one else can, heralding a new era in simulating surgical procedures.”

The company currently employees 15 people between Northern Ireland and the USA and plans to a add further 5 in the next three months, with expectations to double the number of employees by the year end
